# Quick Setups

Quick setups are the presets generated by many FocalRig nodes based on the current preview in the Control Rig Editor. This page explains how quick setups work across the nodes that support them.

If you just want to get a character working, start with [Third-Person Setup](third-person-setup.md) or [First-Person Setup](first-person-setup.md).

When you place a node, FocalRig scans the skeleton hierarchy and pose in the preview, builds any matching presets it can detect, and auto-applies the first one. If another preset fits your rig better, pick it on the node and keep going from there.

Quick setups are meant to provide a good starting point, you can still edit every setting manually afterward.

## Pick a good preview pose

Quick setups are generated from the current pose in the Control Rig Editor's preview, so it's important to pick a pose you expect to see during gameplay. In the "Preview Settings" tab set "Preview Controller" to "Use Specific Animation" and select an "idle" or an "aiming forward" pose or loop.

## What Affects Detection

- Bone and control names need to roughly match what the node is looking for.
- The current preview pose helps FocalRig guess axes and directions.
- Some nodes need extra elements such as a muzzle, POV bone, or eye bones before they can build a useful preset.
- If no good preset is found, you can still fill the settings manually.

## Node-Specific Quick Setups

Each supported node explains its own detection rules:
